My First Oil Change Checklist

Every DIY mechanic has a drain plug story. Here's the checklist that keeps me from adding to mine.

1. Warm the engine for a few minutes, then shut it off.
2. Get the right oil and filter for your car (check the owner's manual).
3. Jack it up safely and use jack stands.
4. Drain the oil and replace the filter.
5. Reinstall the drain plug with a new crush washer.
6. Fill, check the dipstick, and look for leaks.

Torque it right, not tight.
